Cooling system & radiator repair in Elizabethtown, PA
An engine that overheats even once can warp a cylinder head. We pressure-test the system, find the leak or failed part, and get the temperature needle back where it belongs.
Signs it is time
- Temperature gauge climbing or overheating warning
- Sweet smell or steam from under the hood
- Green, orange or pink puddles under the car
- Coolant reservoir keeps going low
- Heater blows cold at idle
If your car starts to overheat
Turn off the A/C, turn the heater on full hot to pull heat from the engine, and pull over safely. Shut the engine off and let it cool. Never open a hot radiator cap. If the gauge is in the red, have the car brought to us rather than driving it.
Why cooling systems fail
Coolant breaks down over time and stops protecting against corrosion. Plastic radiator tanks crack with age and heat cycles. Water pumps start to weep from the seal. Hoses soften from the inside out. In Central PA, the swing from single-digit winter mornings to hot, humid summer traffic puts all of it through its paces.
Use the right coolant
Coolants are not all the same. Mixing types can form sludge and shorten the life of the water pump and radiator. We use the type your manufacturer specifies and mix it to protect against Pennsylvania winter temperatures.

Cooling System & Radiator FAQ
Can I just add water?
In an emergency, water will get you to a shop. It does not protect against freezing or corrosion, so have the system checked and refilled with the correct coolant mix soon after.
How often should coolant be changed?
It depends on the coolant type and vehicle, often somewhere between 30,000 and 150,000 miles. Your owner’s manual has the interval, or ask us to test it.
Why is my heater blowing cold?
Low coolant, a stuck-open thermostat, air in the system or a clogged heater core are common causes. See our A/C and heating page as well.
Is a leaking water pump urgent?
Yes. A weeping pump usually gets worse, and on many engines the water pump is driven by the timing belt, so a failure can take the belt with it.
