Pre-purchase used car inspection in Elizabethtown, PA
Buying a used car from a private seller or another lot? Bring it here first. A mechanic’s inspection costs far less than a surprise repair in the first month.
What we look for
A clean exterior and a fresh detail can hide a lot. On the lift we look at the things sellers do not advertise: frame and rocker rust from years of salted Pennsylvania roads, oil and coolant leaks, worn suspension parts, mismatched paint and panel gaps from accident repair, and water lines or corrosion that point to flood damage.
We scan the computer for codes, including ones that were recently cleared and have not yet turned the light back on. See our used car buying checklist for what to check yourself before you call us.
How it works
Call or book a time and arrange with the seller to bring the car to our shop. Most honest sellers welcome an inspection. If a seller will not allow one, that tells you something too.
You get a written report that separates safety problems, repairs to budget for, and normal wear. Use it to walk away, negotiate, or buy with confidence.
Buying from us instead?
Every vehicle in our inventory is inspected before it goes on the lot, and you are welcome to have it inspected by a mechanic of your choosing.

Pre-Purchase Inspection FAQ
Can you inspect a car I am buying from someone else?
Yes. We inspect vehicles from private sellers and other dealerships. The seller or you brings the car to our shop in Elizabethtown.
Can you come to the seller’s location?
Not at the moment. Inspections are done on a lift at our shop, which is where rust, leaks and worn suspension parts show up. Most sellers will let you bring the car in for an hour.
How long does a pre-purchase inspection take?
Plan on setting aside part of a morning or afternoon. Call ahead so we can have a bay ready when the car arrives.
Do you check the vehicle history report?
We check the car itself. We recommend also running a history report on the VIN, since the two together give you the fullest picture.
